the technology
Verve Living Systems relies on an extraordinary technology developed by EnOcean GmbH, a Siemens Corporation spin-off.
The technology is based on a simple discovery made by EnOcean scientists: enough energy is created by a simple act like turning a switch on and off to allow the transmission of radio signals across distances as great as 300 feet.
What EnOcean did was to create small wireless sensors that can collect ("harvest") tiny amounts of energy. When we at Verve came across the technology, we immediately recognized its potential for radically changing the dynamics of home control.
We have used it to create a wireless, energy-harvesting, whole-house lighting control system that can turn on both incandescent and compact fluorescent lights, dim them and turn them off without having to wire the switches to the lighting sources, thereby making the switches totally movable.
We didn't stop there, either. To enhance the functionality of the system, the system is wired through controllers that allow homeowners to set up different lighting "scenes", thereby making it possible for them to adjust the lighting throughout their homes with the click of a switch.
